QuietNoises, Field 2
Delicate insect noises are emitted by sound-buoys floating on a lake. From a jetty, listeners must leave dry land and row out to the field of sound-buoys, arranged circularly on the water. There, they can explore the sounds that are too soft to attend to from shore. This unusual listening situation directs the ear to the surrounding ambience. It is so quiet at the lake that, in fact, the faint insect sounds that were used in the piece can also be heard. This led to the work's title "QuietNoises".
